Nexus staff in paw-some animal charity effort
Staff at a rail service operator have given an animal charity a platform to grow with a four-figure donation.
Nexus workers have handed over more than £6000 to Bryson’s Animal Shelter.
The cash – raised from a year of raffles, coffee mornings, quizzes, wellbeing walks and cake sales – will help the Wrekenton-based charity’s efforts to replace a kennel block.
More than 30 Nexus staff also spent a day volunteering at the charity.
Founded in 1947, Bryson’s Animal Shelter rehomes hundreds of cats, dogs and small animals every year.
It costs more than £250,000 to run annually, with bosses relying on fundraising and donations.
Cathy Massarella, managing director of Nexus, which operates the Tyne and Wear Metro, said: “We have a lot of animal lovers, so employees were keen to get involved in all kinds of fundraising to help this really worthy local cause.
“Thank you to everyone who donated, took part in activities or organised events.”
Tracy Holmes, manager at Bryson’s Animal Shelter, added: “Thank you to everyone at Nexus for choosing to support us.
“You have raised a fantastic amount of money, which really will make a difference.”
