Developer unveils cricket club homes blueprint
A developer has pitched plans to transform an ex-cricket club’s home into a housing estate.
Breck hopes to create an 81-strong affordable home scheme at Huyton Cricket and Bowling Club.
Bosses say the Merseyside development would include one to four-bedroom rental and shared ownership homes, with discussions underway with a registered affordable housing provider to buy and manage the units.
They add the Bamber Bridge-based firm would also renovate the site’s 1875 Grade II-listed pavilion – which has stood idle since Huyton Cricket and Bowling Club folded in 2009 – for community and commercial use.
A decision from Knowsley Council officials is expected in the coming weeks.
Andy Garnett, Breck managing director, said: “Since we acquired the site last year, we’ve been working closely with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure our plans provide real, long-term benefits to the Huyton community.
“There is a strong need for high-quality affordable housing across Merseyside and this development will provide new homes while breathing fresh life into a heritage asset.”
The plans come just days after Breck submitted a 139-home St Helens blueprint and revealed it had bought the 21-acre former Ravenhead Brickworks site, in Upholland, to deliver around 300 new homes.
