Hospitality firm expands with hotel sector move
A bar and restaurant operator has expanded with an accommodation deal.
Buzzworks has bought Nether Abbey Hotel.
Bosses say the swoop for the North Berwick base marks its first move into the bed and breakfast sphere, and supports its “long-term aim to become Scotland’s most-loved hospitality business”.
They say the venture will create up to 45 new jobs, with all existing Nether Abbey Hotel staff retained.
The 1950s building is set to close early next year for renovation work to create a “modern pub and vibrant restaurant alongside 12 bedrooms and enhanced guest facilities”.
It is slated to reopen in late 2026.
Kenny Blair, managing director at Buzzworks, whose portfolio already includes Herringbone North Berwick and Lido Musselburgh, said: “North Berwick is one of Scotland’s special coastal towns.
“This hotel has been an important part of the community for decades, and we are committed to honouring that legacy while bringing a fresh experience to locals and visitors.
“This acquisition is just the start of our journey into accommodation, and it supports our long-term aim to become Scotland’s most-loved hospitality business.”
Stirling and Jela Stewart, of Nether Abbey Hotel, added: “After more than 60 wonderful years in our family, we are incredibly proud of the hotel’s legacy and the role it has played in the North Berwick community.
“Buzzworks shares our family values of providing quality, service and community spirit, and we’re confident the hotel is in excellent hands.”
