Local Mum & Daughter Create Tongue in Cheek Christmas Reel
A local mum who recently walked away from her 26 year marriage and 6 figure salary to recreate her life in midlife is encouraging other women to do the same, with a tongue in cheek social media reel, created by her teenage daughter, as she playfully challenges outdated stereotypes of women being a martyr in their own home, and invites them to instead step up and own their own joy!
Leaving behind a 6 figure salary, working with household names such as Sainsbury’s and Youngs, Josie Hamilton-Cook, 53, from Lincolnshire, made the leap into entrepreneurship to follow her midlife dream of running global empowerment retreats for women. She has now been joined by her daughter in the business, who has taken the lead on her mum’s social media, and this Christmas the pair have created a fun reel to reach out to other women who may be feeling ready for change.
After launching her new business in Ibiza earlier this year Josie is now inviting women to join her in Morocco in May , and her fun Christmas campaign was created by her daughter, Fran, to get women talking about what they REALLY want for Christmas!
On a mission to help more women to love themselves from the inside out, Josie said: “At our last retreat in Ibiza I had women coming to me saying ‘ I thought I was OK - but now I realise OK isn’t enough anymore. I’ve got more to give!’ and so I’m passionate about reaching more women who know they want more from life. “
Fran, 18, who is employed as Social media and Operations Executive said:“We are having a bit of fun with this video but there is a serious message. I saw my mum crumble into a person I didn’t recognise - but now I’m seeing her loving life with a new energy and I’m loving the adventure we’re on together. Obviously the reel is playing into sexism stereotypes and we know we don’t ACTUALLY live in that world anymore - for the most part - but I still see so many women feeling like they are living their lives for other people.”
Josie added: “I hear from so many women how they are ‘conforming’ to be the person others think they should be- and this frustrates the hell out of me. Having been there, living that life that looked great on paper, I know how empty that can still leave you feeling - it took me years and spending thousands of pounds on therapy to find my answer, and I want to help other women move on much more quickly and easily. For them it might not mean ripping up their entire life like I did - it quite possibly is more about just refocusing on what they really want and bringing more consciousness to that so they can fill their life with more of the things that bring them joy”.
She added: “In the video we say ‘give women what they really want this Christmas’ - but actually we are also inviting women to go get what they want themselves. The travel industry has seen a rise in women solo travelling, and women starting to spend money on themselves and their wellbeing - so we don’t need to wait for anyone else to ‘save us’ - it’s actually more empowering to gift this to ourselves!”.
With the Rebellious Essence Retreats Hamilton-Cook is blending her skills as a transformational mentor with her knowledge as an image and style consultant, with her own experiences of personal and spiritual development, to guide women who feel stuck, to see midlife through a new lens.
Having left a 26-year marriage and career, Josie founded Rebellious Essence to guide women (ages 46-53) through luxury retreats and personalized coaching, combining inner healing with outer expression, so they can reclaim their power.
Josie’s next retreat in Morocco is in May , offers 5 star luxury, held in an exclusive private villa, where she is inviting other midlife women to ‘walk away from convention to forge their own rebellious path’. Immersive experiences will include sessions on Astrology, Human Design, Colour and Style, Shamanic Healing and Vision Boarding along with sunset desert fire ceremonies and guided excursions to soak up the Moroccan culture. She has also brought in a private chef who has cooked for the King of Morocco.
With 69%* of midlife women reporting feelings of invisibility and a lack of representation in mainstream media, the demand for transformative experiences that prioritize confidence, empowerment, and self-expression has never been higher.
At the heart of the retreat is the Essence Code, Josie’s signature process. Josie and her team, ‘The Essence Alchemists’, with decades of expertise in mentorship, personal styling, and holistic empowerment, will help other women step into fearless self-expression, many of whom may be experiencing menopause.
Josie added:“ In the last 2 years I have learnt to live on my own, to release the status of the big family home, luxury cars and successful career and really focus on my own healing and most importantly find out who the hell Josie is.I have always been a bit of a maverick and rebel. I just wasn't able to express this before.”
