Padel takes centre court in Gateshead
A new sports and leisure destination is set to open in Gateshead as demand for emerging racket sports continues to grow.
Pikup Padel will launch its first flagship 33,400sq ft facility at Follingsby Park after signing a ten-year lease on Unit 17B.
The venue will feature 11 padel courts supporting both doubles and singles play, alongside facilities designed to welcome players of all abilities.
Set to open this summer, the venue is expected to create new roles across coaching, operations and management.
Paddy Kendall, managing director at Pikup Padel, said: “Launching our first-ever site was a major decision, and Follingsby Park immediately stood out as a location that reflects our vision for the sport, while enabling us to become part of a dynamic and growing business community.
“We're excited to bring padel to Gateshead and to create something entirely unique here.”
The development adds to the expanding occupier base at Follingsby Park, which is already home to businesses including industrial paint supplier Rust-oleum, logistics firm Whistl, data shredding company Restore and packaging supplier Kite.
