Lighting a path to growth

A North East-based business advisory organisation is helping a fast-growing recycling company sharpen its strategy and accelerate expansion through peer-led support.

Lighthouse Business Club, founded by experienced business leader Jon Malton, has played a key role in supporting the growth of Gateshead-based GAP Northeast Limited, one of the UK’s leading recycling and waste electrical items companies.

Through its structured peer-to-peer advisory groups, Lighthouse has helped the business navigate complex decisions around investment, expansion and long-term planning.

GAP Northeast Limited was founded by former Royal Navy submariner Peter Moody, who began the company as a fridge recycling operation after leaving military service.

Today, the company processes thousands of fridges each day, handles millions of disposable vapes annually and operates one of the most tightly regulated recycling facilities in the UK.

The company is forecasting a turnover of £30 million this year.

Peter said: “Working with Jon and Lighthouse Business Club has been invaluable.

“The advice and challenge from people who have genuinely been there before helped us make better decisions and avoid costly mistakes.

“The support around our expansion plans was a real turning point for the business.”

Lighthouse Business Club, which supports more than 80 members across the North East and Cumbria, operates as a confidential advisory community rather than a traditional networking group.

It brings together business owners, managing directors and senior leaders from non-competing companies with turnovers above £1 million, who meet regularly to tackle real challenges and share experience-led insight.

The club’s influence was evident during GAP’s expansion into Scotland, where peer input helped shape the approach and secure a successful new operation.

Jon Malton, the founder of Lighthouse Business Club, added: “Lighthouse Business Club exists to help leaders make better decisions.

“GAP is a brilliant example of what happens when experience, openness, and ambition come together.

“Seeing businesses like Peter’s grow, create jobs, and do things the right way is exactly why Lighthouse exists.”
