Civil War re-enactor suffers real wound
There are obviously going to be certain dangers involved in the pastime of historic battle recreation, but you would think that a re-staging of a battle with no casualties on your side would be reasonably safe. Not so for a participant in a re-enactment of the Battle of Anderson County in South Carolina over the weekend, according to thestate.com
The Battle of Anderson County was fought in May 1865 with no Confederate soldiers wounded, and only two Union casualties. Saturday’s version had to be stopped for about 30 minutes after a Confederate cavalryman suffered a gunpowder burn to the leg and a cut that needed stitches.
The soldier’s ‘commander’ said: “This is the first time this has happened. We’ve never had one wounded in the field. It’s a freak accident.”
