Local learners selected to join national panel to advise Government
Two North East people have been selected as Government further education advisers.
The National Learner Panel was set up in 2006 by the Government to give learners a say in the development of further education at national level.
Since then it has been advising the Government, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) North East and other organisations involved in making the decisions. Anyone in further education is eligible to sit on the panel as an independent volunteer. Members are appointed for 12 months and are drawn from across the further education sector including colleges, work-based providers and community based provision.
Maureen Romaniuk, a civil servant from Sunderland, and Oliver Wood, of Newcastle, have been appointed to the Panel to meet with and advise Ministers.
Chris Roberts, Regional Director, LSC North East, said: “It is important that we canvas the opinions of service users to help us shape further education strategies that will meet people’s needs and aspirations.
“It also is good to see that two learners from the North East have been appointed to the panel and that as a result this region will be making a substantial contribution to the further education debate.”
