NETPark Incubator ahead of target
Demand for premises at a regional technology development is “far ahead” of target after companies queued up to become tenants. The Incubator building at Sedgefield’s science and technology park NETPark, was expected to hit 95% occupancy after three and a half years but has already reached that target in just over half the time.
NETPark has proved popular with a range of businesses in fields such as forensic nanotechnology, photonics and optoelectronic crystals.
Stewart Watkins, managing director of the County Durham Development Company who manage the park, said: “The success of the NETPark Incubator has been staggering and is testament to the vision of the county to establish a science and technology park in its boundaries.
“These businesses have the potential to be the leading North East firms of the future and it is vital they get every assistance to be the great success we believe they will become.”
NETPark this month celebrated the start of work on the Innovation Village - a series of larger accommodation, developed by Helios City, providing incubator residents with space to grow and expand.
A total of 11 companies are currently located in the NETPark Incubator which was built with financial assistance from Durham County Council, One NorthEast and the European Regional Development Fund.
