Local firm help artist paint picture of success
A Tyneside paint company is helping an Egyptian artist make a colourful splash at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead with her first UK exhibition. Jotun Paints (Europe) Ltd recently established its Decorative Division in Newcastle and in a move to mark the occasion has supplied Mona Marzouk with 250 litres of emulsion paint to enable her to create two large-scale wall paintings at BALTIC.
The paintings are a feature of her ‘The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Energy’s Evil’ exhibition, which tackles issues pertaining to energy as the currency of power and life. Mona specified Jotun paint for the project - the company’s products are popular in Egypt, where they have been used to decorate the Museum of Art in Alexandria.
Mona said: “I would like to thank Jotun for their kind and generous donation. The strong and brilliant contrasting colour tones which I selected from have worked well for me in capturing and visualising the work which is now showing at BALTIC.”
Marketing manager for Jotun, Mark Robinson, said: “We’re delighted to able to support this event and wish Mona the best of luck with her first ever UK exhibition. “Exhibitions like this allow us to showcase the quality, strength and strong vibrant colours of the range, bringing them to life in a powerful and visually stimulating way.”
