Business pitches for greater stake in the market
A North East holiday company has boosted its portfolio of caravan parks in the region with the acquisition of two new holiday resorts. The additions of Glororum near Bamburgh and Sandhaven in South Shields brings the value of Northumbrian Leisure Limited’s holiday park portfolio to over £15 million.
With holiday home pitches spanning the length of the North East coastline, the Northumberland-based company has further sites at Warkworth and at Cresswell where permission was approved for a £5m expansion of the firm’s Golden Sands Holiday Park. The new development is expected to create around 40 jobs.
Regional runners up in the North East Business Awards’ Small Business category, Northumbrian Leisure say the expansion is good news for the company and the region’s economy.
Nigel Thompson, Northumbrian Leisure’s managing director, who runs the business with wife, Sandra, said: “This is a massive opportunity for us to grow the business in the North East region. It’s a very exciting time for the company and the different areas we are moving into. The holiday park business brings jobs and added spend into the local economy, so it is good news all around for the region.
“As a private, family-run enterprise we are especially pleased that the company is continuing to go from strength to strength. “As with our existing sites, the new parks both have a real family community feeling which we are keen to retain.”
The company plans to invest a further £500,000 in upgrading facilities across the group. This will include the redevelopment of the touring caravan area at the former council-owned Sandhaven Park.
The Golden Sands Holiday Park will act as the central management hub for the group, a move which has created further jobs in the local area.
