Café 21 named one of UK?s top restaurants
A North East restaurant has been named as one of the UK’s best places to eat in a list compiled by a leading industry magazine.
Café 21, run by chef Terry Laybourne, features in Restaurant magazine’s first ever Top 100 list.
The restaurant, located at Trinity Gardens on Newcastle Quayside, is ranked at number 60 on the list, which is topped by Gordon Ramsey’s Maze restaurant. The list was voted for by the magazine’s readers and judged by a panel of chefs, restaurateurs and food critics.
Café 21 is the signature restaurant in Laybourne’s 21 Hospitality Group. It was originally based at 21 Queen Street – where it picked up the region’s first Michelin star – before relocating to the Quayside in 2007.
Terry said: “This is another feather in the cap for Café 21. It’s something we’re proud of and a nice accolade to achieve - particularly since we relocated and expanded the restaurant last year. It’s really a tribute to the hard work of the outstanding team of chefs and front of house staff we have working here.
“At Café 21, and at each of our restaurants, we believe in the simple approach. We take pride in ensuring that excellent cuisine goes hand-in-hand with friendly and knowledgeable service and first-class hospitality. Making the Top 100 list shows that we’re doing something right and that customers appreciate this approach.”
