Church of England pens prayer for the redundant
As a way to help those threatened with unemployment in the current financial crisis, the Church of England this week published a prayer to help comfort Britons who lose their jobs.
“Hear me as I cry out in confusion, help me to think clearly, and calm my soul,” says the “Prayer On Being Made Redundant.”
The church also offered a prayer for those who keep their jobs but suffer stress and feelings of guilt when colleagues are fired: “Who will be next? How will I cope with the increased pressure of work?” asks the “Prayer For Those Remaining In The Workplace.”
The Right Rev John Packer, the Bishop of Ripon and Leeds and chairman of the church’s stewardship committee, said: “We need to be on the look-out to support those facing redundancy. Neighbourliness is so important in crisis situations, whether it’s offering people new prayers to God, or by simply being there with a listening ear.”
