Twitchhiker leaves this weekend
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, Sunday 1 March sees the North East’s Paul Smith take off around the world with the help of social media platform Twitter. He’s using the micro-blogging site to help him travel to New Zealand, all in aid of charity:water. The catch is that he can only accept offers of help through Twitter, and he can’t make any plans more than three days in advance.
Within seconds of beginning his quest at midday on Thursday (three days before his departure time on Sunday) he had offers of train tickets to London, ferry trips to Amsterdam, and beds in Sunderland (somewhat less useful, but still well-intentioned). He accepted the Amsterdam offer, and he’ll be off on his merry way on Sunday.
So, follow his progress at www.twitchhiker.com, sponsor him at www.justgiving.com/twitchhiker, and help him out if you can. You could even go and see him off from Newcastle Central Station at 12 on Sunday. He might need a bed in Amsterdam, maybe you can help…
