Worst football team claws one back
A football team dubbed Britain’s worst have won their first ever game - after a losing streak of 90 matches.
Harraby Athletic have been trounced week-in week-out for three years, beginning their stretch of defeats with a 19-0 hammering in 2006.
They regularly concede 10 goals a game and their keeper has picked the ball out of the net more than 400 times in under three seasons.
But the under-14 squad are now celebrating their first ever win after coming from behind to beat Edenvale Hawks 3-2 at their home ground, Hammond’s Park.
The Cumbrian side had previously collected just one point in the Longhorn Youth Football League since their formation - and that was only because the opposing team didn’t turn up.
Coach Brett Preston said: “Pure determination has got us there and their faces after the game meant everything.
“All week I’ve had other managers phoning me up to congratulate us on our achievement.”
