North East firm takes on the youth unemployment
A training provider which is helping the region fight back against rising youth unemployment has secured work placements for 21 youngsters in 21 days thanks to its new ICT apprenticeship scheme.
County Durham-based Baltic Training Services, which largely specialises in industrial, administrative and customer service training schemes, recently diversified into offering an ICT apprenticeship.
Since starting the programme Baltic has managed to progress 21 learners into permanent employment within 21 days at some of the UK’s most successful financial, technology and legal firms.
This number is set to rise as more learners are lined up for interviews.
Baltic’s contracts manager Ian Barrett, said: “We work on the employability skills as well as the technical requirements of the apprenticeship and offer additional vendor qualifications which make apprentices more attractive to employers.
“Our aim is to ensure we align the training and academic requirements of young people with the needs of employers.”
