Huge response to town centre facelift
Plans to give a Teesside town’s riverside a £300m regeneration, which could create more than 4,500 jobs have been viewed by thousands of people just days after its launch.
Last week the Northshore Development Partnership announced the revamp of Stockton’s Northshore area, including new offices, houses and shops.
Stockton Council said plans on its website had received 14,000 hits and the interest had been “tremendous”.
New facilities will also be built on the site to expand Durham University Queen’s Campus.
Stockton Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and transport, Councillor Bob Cook, said: “The response so far has been tremendous.
“These plans would create a vibrant, attractive, high quality town environment which is attractive to businesses and retailers, with an enhanced shopping environment for people using the town centre to enjoy at their leisure.”
The project is a partnership between Homes and Communities Agency and Stockton Borough Council.
