More jobs set to go at MoD
The Ministry of Defence is set to cut another 7,000 jobs, in addition to the 25,000 which are already due to be cut
According to the BBC, this information was included in a letter to a top civil servant, as the MoD attempts to bring its budget under control.
Many union leaders and defence officials have expressed concern at the decision, especially as the cuts were not mentioned in the Defence Secretary Liam Fox’s last statement to parliament.
In the defence review last October, the MoD outlined the future of the Forces. The MoD are hoping to cut their budget by 8%, as well as bringing MoD numbers down by a third over the next nine years.
The letter, which was seen by the Guardian, argues that while the cuts are necessary, they will undoubtedly raise questions which cannot immediately be answered. It Is also hoped that many jobs will go through “natural wastage”, and compulsory redundancy will be a last resort.
