Family businesses help women prosper
Sisters really are doing it for themselves in businesses according to new research by Coutts bank.
The statistics released today show that family businesses are 48 percent more likely to feature a female presence on their board than a non-family business. Women comprise of just 11.7 percent of leaders in typical boardrooms.
This research highlights the continuing disparity between men and women in the business world, but also acknowledges that smaller family-run businesses are encouraging female engagement in business life.
Juliette Johnson, Coutts head of Family Business says: “The role of women is changing within both business and the family. Family businesses are creating diversity and a broader set of leadership skills by including women in the top management teams.
“Women are making a tremendous impact on the board, as well as making huge contributions as entrepreneurs and owners.”
Coutts are now offering advice for women in business to make sure they make the biggest possible impact by showing that leadership should be more about having the right person with the right skill set than their gender.
Juliette added: “Our new publication provides practical advice and real life examples of inspiring individuals, each with their own unique role to play, in and around the family business, for women to take back and share with their own businesses.”
