2250 Jobs created by purchase of Southern Cross Care Homes
2250 jobs are set to be created in the social care sector, thanks to the purchase of 35 Southern Cross care homes by a Leeds-based care group.
Maria Mallaband Care Group (MMCG) will now manage the homes under a new company, Countrywide Care Homes, and has expressed plans to grow the operation to 70 sites over the next five years.
Currently MMCG operates 28 care homes offering care for the elderly and specialist autism care under its Autism Care UK operation. This number is now set to go up to 111 properties offering a wide range of services.
Philip Burgan, chairman and CEO of MMCG commented: “We have grown quickly through word of mouth by delivering first class care in a five star hotel environment.
“The Southern Cross deal moves us into a new sector and our excellent staff will be working hard to impose the same high standards on the homes we are acquiring. I believe Countrywide Care Homes will be a valuable addition to the group.”
