Ricoh Arena finalist in two national awards

The Ricoh Arena in Coventry has been shortlisted for two national PR and marketing awards following the enthralling Davis Cup tennis action at the venue.

The multi-purpose venue is a finalist in the Best Public Relations Campaign and the Best Integrated Marketing Campaign at the Meetings Industry Marketing Awards (MIMA) 2013.

The Ricoh Arena will be competing against The Barbican, Cars for Stars, Hedsor House and Paul Smith Associates, and Triggerfish Communications in the Best Public Relations category.

In the Best Integrated Marketing Campaign category, they have been chosen as finalists alongside the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, Keith Prowse, Marylebone Cricket Club and Wyboston Lakes.

The gold, silver and bronze award winners in each category at the MIMA will be announced by the chairs of each judging panel at the presentation evening at the Novotel London West on Thursday, October 24.

Liz Cooper, marketing director at the Ricoh Arena, said the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas tie, which resulted in an historic 3-2 victory for Great Britain over Russia, had been a fantastic success on many levels.

“The MIMA recognise the best marketeers and raise the standards of marketing in the meetings and events industry and we are extremely pleased to have been named as finalists in two categories at one of the industry’s most highly regarded awards,” she said.

“The Davis Cup was an undoubted triumph not only in terms of the result and ticket sales, but the general ambiance and economic activity it created around the city.

“It was the first time we had held a tennis tournament at the Ricoh Arena and the Jaguar Indoor Arena looked fabulous.

“Throughout the build-up, we worked closely with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Coventry City Council on all the marketing activities which as well as building a media profile for the event involved ensuring there was a legacy for tennis in the region.

“It encouraged people of all ages to have a go at the sport at tennis clubs in the city and led to new equipment at 146 schools throughout Coventry courtesy of the LTA which means the game will continue to be played by generations of future youngsters.

“Bringing world-class events such as the Davis Cup to the Ricoh Arena increases the city’s profile on a national and international scale and there are many positive spin-offs for local businesses due to the influx of visitors.

“The feedback we received from the LTA following the Davis Cup was extremely positive and we are keeping our fingers crossed for a positive result at the awards ceremony.”
