Shoppers want to see more independent stores
Royal Quays’ Judith Ramshaw, welcomes the news that shoppers would like to see the introduction of more independent stores
It was interesting to read a new report produced by Groupon and retail analysts, Kantar Retail, who believe that the future of the high street is in the hands of independent stores.
They have released ‘The Future of the Great British High Street: Voice of the Consumer Report,’ which has unveiled that the majority of shoppers would like to see major changes.
Out of 2,000 people asked, 71% would like to see a greater range of independent shops with 58% of people preferring an in-store shopping experience as opposed to 42% who enjoy the convenience of what online has to offer.
Despite what they believe is an industry push for self-service, the statistics speak for themselves when showing that people want a good quality and convenient service. More often than not, self-service check out facilities can lead to frustration.
In my experience, independent stores have always proved popular. The uniqueness and charm that they offer, draws customers back time and time again.
At Royal Quays, we have a collection of independent stores which sit well alongside - and complement -the range of bigger, national brands that also flourish here. Indeed, they cooperate and learn from each other in a very healthy way.
We have seen at first hand that independents can prove to be little gems. Get the offering and messaging right and you will be able to attract an audience.
It seems that the back-to-basics approach of excellent customer service, quality products and a unique offering is what the retail sector is crying out for.
