£9m refurbishment of prominent York hotel close to completion
A five year-long, £9m refurbishment project on one of York’s largest hotel’s is about to be completed, with further investment planned for 2016.
Park Inn by Radisson York City Centre, located on the riverside, has just started work on the next phase of the significant improvements – a £500k upgrade of bedrooms, meeting and conference facilities and a new restaurant.
The new meeting facilities will be unveiled in July, and will make the most of the recently installed superfast broadband as well as video conferencing. The new restaurant is expected to open in September and the hotel is planning to hold several launch events.
In addition, the hotel was recently crowned Park Inn by Radisson Hotel of the Year, beating off competition from more than 130 hotels across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
General manager Sally Hughes (pictured right) said: “The £9 million programme over five years and the group award of Hotel of the Year shows how highly regarded we are here in York. This has been a huge investment in the city, which will see us become the next generation Park Inn – offering local businesses and visitors a truly world-class experience.
“Although many of our bedrooms were only refurbished three years ago, we will be upgrading 110 of the rooms again next year to ensure that the hotel remains one of the most comfortable and modern places to stay in York.
“The recent renovation of our bar and meeting area, with floor to ceiling windows giving guests unrivalled views of the riverside, has attracted a lot of attention already. We recently hosted the very successful launch of Make it York, which was attended by the Lord Mayor and over 300 delegates from local businesses. It was a fantastic opportunity for people to see behind the façade and see what Park Inn by Radisson York City Centre has to offer.”
