Holiday Inn Express opens in Middlesbrough following £12.4m regeneration

A formerly vacant property on Albert Road, Middlesbrough, has been transformed into a 138-bedroom hotel following a £12.4 million regeneration carried out by Ashall Projects, assisted by Middlesbrough Council.

Just over a year after build work on the project began, the Holiday Inn Express Middlesbrough team has welcomed its first ever guests.

The UK’s largest independent hotel management company, Redefine|BDL Hotels, which currently manages 69 properties across the UK, will operate the hotel.

The budget hotel includes a bar, two meeting rooms and single, double and family bedrooms.

20 jobs have been created at the hotel, including roles in the front of house, housekeeping, waiting and maintenance teams.

The team was assembled following a recruitment fair in partnership with Middlesbrough Council, which was held at Middlesbrough town hall in June.

General Manager Mark Winter said: “We are all thrilled to have officially opened our doors. It is fantastic to be able to welcome guests to this fantastic new hotel.

“We have an enthusiastic and experienced team in place to build a hotel that can compete with any other venue in Middlesbrough.

“I am certain that both guests and local residents will love what is the culmination of a very successful regeneration project led by Ashall Projects and the local council.”
