Knutsford-based Crawford Healthcare targets £25bn US wound care market
Crawford Healthcare, the wound and skin care company headquartered in Cheshire, has secured a deal with the US government that could see its products supplied to around 9m veterans across America.
The agreement makes Knutsford-based Crawford Healthcare an approved supplier within the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Federal Supply Schedule (FSS), which supports the healthcare acquisition needs of the VA and other agencies.
Following the deal, thousands of US government healthcare providers will be able purchase Crawford Healthcare’s wound dressings.
The firm’s CEO, Richard Anderson, said: “It’s testament to the quality of our offering that Crawford Healthcare advanced wound care dressings will now be included as products available for US military veterans.
“The United States is the largest wound care market in the world, estimated to be worth £25bn per year in medical costs, so it’s an essential part of our long-term growth strategy.”
He added: “Securing this agreement will boost our profile whilst enabling us to have a hugely positive impact on a large group of patients.”
VA data has shown that as many as one in four US military veterans have diabetes, making chronic wound care particularly important to the military community.
Speaking further, Richard said: “As is the case in the UK, diabetes, rising obesity and old age are all contributing to the growing need for new approaches to wound care in the US.
“Crawford Healthcare’s rapid international growth to date highlights just how much of a global issue this has become and we expect this deal to further boost our overseas operations.”
Last month, Crawford Healthcare expanded its presence in Canada with a new exclusivity deal struck with wound care firm Exciton Technologies.
