Former engineer brings CrossFit to Bury
A former engineer has decided to turn his passion for fitness into a new business venture.
Jonathan Soudry, from Whitefield, has invested £15k in establishing CrossFit Bury at Eton Business Park.
Opening in a newly refurbished unit next month, the 860 sq ft gym will provide small group coaching for up to eight members per class.
Jonathan said: “CrossFit is designed for everyone whether you’re 16 or 60, and all fitness levels making it the perfect option for anyone who has the motivation to better themselves.
“At the heart of our philosophy lies the belief that we train inside the gym to cultivate the character required to thrive in our lives outside the gym, whether it’s our sport, profession or personal life.”
He added: “Through our community-focused ethic, members will not only build themselves, but also create lasting friendships.”
Jonathan, who previously worked as an aerodynamics engineer with Jaguar Land Rover and Bentley Motors, made the decision to create Bury’s first CrossFit box after spotting a gap in the market.
CrossFit is an exercise system created in the 1990s by fitness entrepreneur Greg Glassman, who developed the regimen over several decades. Today, the trademark is owned by US-based CrossFit, Inc.
Jonathan said that with CrossFit growing in popularity the UK and people increasingly seeking ways to get fit outside of traditional gym concepts, the decision to launch CrossFit Bury was a “no brainer”.
He explained: “Around the M60 Ring Road I noticed that there was already an affiliate gym in almost every town, but there was a big gap between Bolton and Oldham where those wanting to do CrossFit would have either join a regular gym or travel up to 10 miles in order to do so.
“I’m looking forward to bringing the box to Bury and helping members achieve the health and fitness levels they desire.”
CrossFit Bury will open on September 6.
