Auckland Project learning team in national spotlight

A North East regeneration charity has been recognised for its outstanding educational impact.

The Auckland Project’s Learning and Skills team has been shortlisted for the School Travel Awards 2025 in the Education / Learning Team of the Year category.

Established in 2022, the four-strong team of Gemma Scott, Charlotte Foakes, Alanna Hatton and Georgia Hendry deliver immersive, multi-sensory workshops across The Auckland Project’s heritage sites – including Auckland Palace, the Faith Museum, Mining Art Gallery, Spanish Gallery and Deer Park – as well as through school outreach.

Sessions cover 17 curriculum subjects and enrichment opportunities for students aged three to 19+, with teacher support including SEND adaptations and tailored guidance.

The charity also works with schools across County Durham, providing partnerships and work experience placements.

In the last year alone, over 11,000 students from the North East and Yorkshire engaged with initiatives such as Meet the Faiths and Mining Art Workshops.

Gemma, learning manager at The Auckland Project, said: “We are thrilled to be recognised as a finalist for such a prestigious award.

“Our team is passionate about creating unforgettable learning experiences that inspire children and young people, and to see that work celebrated on a national stage is a huge honour.”

The School Travel Awards 2025 celebrate organisations delivering exceptional learning beyond the classroom, with winners announced at Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on November 21.
