Schools invited to share festive creativity

A North East education technology provider is encouraging schools across the country to get creative through a national poetry competition.

Daisy Education, based in Gateshead, has launched its annual Festive Poem Competition, inviting teachers to encourage pupils to submit original poems on the theme “Festive Feelings.”

Entries can take any form, from rhyming verse to acrostics, and must be no more than 12 lines.

The winning school will receive a full year’s subscription to DreamBox Reading Plus for an entire class of up to 35 pupils, including training and ongoing support.

Additional prizes include vouchers for the runner-up and third-place schools.

Ian Fitzpatrick, managing director of Daisy Education, said: “This is a fantastic chance to spark imaginations, celebrate student writing and potentially win a full year of DreamBox Reading Plus for a class.

“By bringing creativity and literacy together, we hope to engage students in meaningful writing at a key point in the academic year, while giving one school the opportunity to transform reading outcomes in 2026 – the entries are always fantastic and we love reading what the young people come up with, it’s one of the highlights of our Daisy Education calendar.”

How to get involved:

  1. Register your school via the Daisy Education website.
  2. Download the free support materials (poem template, activity ideas including acrostics and festive worksheets) from the same page.
  3. Submit student poems by midnight on Sunday, December 7.
  4. Amplify your entry by promoting it via social media during the public voting period.

Daisy Education supplies evidence-led online reading and maths solutions, including DreamBox Reading Plus, an adaptive platform offering more than 1300 age-appropriate texts and detailed reporting tools to help teachers support fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
