Dame Allan’s rugby converts Vertu deal
A Newcastle independent school has announced a new sponsorship agreement to support its rugby programme.
Dame Allan’s Schools has agreed a new sponsorship deal with automotive retailer Vertu, which will see the school’s First XV rugby team kitted out in new playing and warm-up kit featuring the company’s branding, as well as on jackets worn pitch-side by the coaching team.
The partnership brings together one of the city’s oldest schools with one of the region’s largest UK-headquartered businesses.
Founded in 1705, Dame Allan’s Schools has a long tradition of academic and sporting achievement, with rugby a central part of school life and teams competing regularly at regional and national level.
The sponsorship will support the continued development of the rugby programme, which has a strong track record of producing players who have progressed to county, national and professional levels.
For Gateshead-headquartered Vertu, which operates more than ten dealerships within 30 miles of the school, the deal forms part of its wider commitment to grassroots sport and youth development, complementing existing partnerships with community teams and sporting organisations including Newcastle Eagles basketball team, the English Football League (EFL) and PREM rugby side Exeter Chiefs.
Robert Forrester, chief executive of Vertu, said: “Rugby is a sport that shapes character.
“It teaches young people how to work together, how to handle setbacks and how to push themselves beyond their limits.
“Those lessons stay with you for life.
“By supporting Dame Allan’s Schools, we’re helping to ensure that these values continue to be passed on to the next generation.
“Sport is a powerful force for good, and we’re proud to play our part in keeping it thriving in our communities."
Mr Will Scott, principal of Dame Allan’s Schools, added: "Rugby has been part of Dame Allan’s for generations.
“It’s more than just a game here – it’s a tradition that brings pupils together and builds confidence and camaraderie.
“This sponsorship from Vertu means we can invest even further in our teams and facilities, giving every child the chance to enjoy the sport and develop the qualities that will serve them well throughout life.”
