Hunt is on to find region's top contact centre
The search is on to find the North East’s leading contact centre for 2007. Around 100 guests gathered at Newcastle’s Centre for Life for the launch of the annual North East Contact Centre Awards. The awards, which are taking place for the fifth time in November, seek to recognise the achievements of companies and individuals working in one of the region’s fastest growing sectors. Guests attending the launch heard from some of last year’s winners and received information on how to enter this year’s awards, which are being organised by Tyne and Wear Development Company in partnership with major sponsor, Sunderland City Council.
Paul Buie, manager of Tyne and Wear Development Company said: “Contact centres are major employers in the North East and it’s important we recognise the contribution they make to the regional economy. These awards are a great opportunity to do just that and are hugely popular with employees.”
Councillor Paul Watson, Deputy Leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “We’re delighted that the North East Contact Centre Awards are taking place again this year. It’s a sector that’s come a long way in a short time and Sunderland has helped lead the way in attracting investment into the region and creating high quality jobs.”
More than 53,000 people are employed in contact centres in the North East, equivalent to around 4.8 percent of the working population.
Sponsors of the event include Sunderland City Council, Tyne and Wear Development Company, ONE North East, Kelly Services, North East Employer Coalition, North East Contact Centre Academy and Contact Centre Professional. Entries are now open for the awards and more information is available from www.necontactcentreawards.co.uk or by calling 01642 505181.
