Teeing off to success
Two Northumbria University Business Studies students are hoping to score a ‘hole in one’ with their new business idea. Jamie O’Neill and Rebecca Stapleton, both 20 years old, have launched The Golf Locker LLP, an online service to provide golfing equipment to beginners of the game.
The company sell a range of golfing equipment for men, ladies and juniors which includes bags, clubs, trolleys and accessories. The products are available predominantly via their website but will also be on sale at local fairs and events. The idea came to the pair after embarking on a placement year as part of their degree at Northumbria University.
Jamie said: “Timing was essential for us. Once we came up with the idea we wanted to get the venture underway whilst we had the support and advice of the Roger Candy, the business partnerships manager at Enterprise Campus.”
Enterprise Campus is a service providing advice, support and assistance to students and graduates wanting to start or develop their own business. Having provided support to over 70 businesses over the past two years, it specialises in assisting a wide range of enterprises to expand their business ambitions.
Roger Candy, business partnerships manager at Enterprise Campus, said: “Northumbria University is keen to support its students in anyway possible and I am delighted that Rebecca and Jamie decided to utilise the facilities available at the Enterprise Campus.
“Receiving support and advice in the early days of a business can often mean the difference between success and failure. Having gone through most aspects of business with the pair, including book keeping and sales, I am confident that the company will get off to a swinging start.”
