Businesses thanked for sustained support
Tyne & Wear Museums Business Partners have been showing their continued support for the region’s galleries and museums despite the current recession.
The Business Partners are all members of the arts-based business partnership, Connecting through Culture, and their membership fees help to support museum wide projects via the Business Partners Fund.
One project to benefit recently is the exhibition Boom Town: Sunderland in the 19th Century, which is currently on show at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. To thank the Business Partners for their ongoing support, businesses and their families were invited to a special Victorian-themed event in the museum.
The exhibition explores Sunderland in Victorian Britain and guests and their families were invited to join in with Victorian Christmas card making, carolling, and dressing up as Victorians for a traditional family portrait.
Sylvia Lowes, Business Development Manager at Lumley Castle Hotel said: “Regardless of the current economic climate, Tyne & Wear Museums continue to provide an exceptional programme of exhibitions, education, and family activities, free of charge for everyone in the community to experience and enjoy.
“Because of this, we think that it is vital to support our local museums and galleries through the economic downturn we are currently experiencing.”
Boom Town will be on display at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens until 15 March.
In addition to the support from Tyne & Wear Museums Business Partners, the exhibition has also been assisted by a grant from Northern Rock Foundation and support from Friends of Sunderland Museums (FOSUMS).
