Tourism businesses get the North East outdoor and active
Following reports of a successful Easter period for the region’s outdoor tourism industry, three attractions have united to back a new campaign to encourage the North East public to explore outdoor locations across their region.
‘Outdoor and Active’ aims to highlight outdoor activities available in Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Tees Valley. The campaign was launched by Andrew Straw (Saddle Skedaddle cycling tours), Amy Craggs (Beamish Wild Ropes Activity Centre) and Simon White (Tees Active Ltd watersports).
Andrew Straw from Newcastle-based cycling holiday specialist, Saddle Skedaddle, said: “This campaign really showcases the great outdoor opportunities available in this part of the region. Cycling is a fantastic activity accessible to people of all ages and abilities, making it a great sport for those who already enjoy getting outdoors, as well as those taking the first tentative steps towards an active lifestyle.
“Here in NewcastleGateshead we have some great cycling routes including the end leg of the coast-to-coast, which takes riders along the cosmopolitan quayside and out to spectacular coastal views from Tynemouth Priory. We’re really delighted to be backing the campaign and working together with our colleagues in County Durham and Tees Valley.”
Andrew Dixon, executive director of Tourism Tyne and Wear, said: “Many outdoor venues are free, and there’s so much to experience from our wide range of cycling adventures, to walking, horse riding, climbing, watersports and much more besides. So there really is no need to head anywhere else to have an outdoor adventure.”
