Charity needs help from local businesses
The Prince’s Trust is calling on North East businesses to back a new corporate fundraising competition.
The nationwide Million Makers challenge is a fundraiser which will run for the first time across the North East from June.
Staff from the City of Sunderland College have already signed up for the competition.
Teams of employees from regions across the country are tasked with turning a Prince’s Trust investment of £1,500 into a profit of £10,000 by running mini-enterprises over a six month period.
Fundraising activities are also part of the challenge with Million Maker teams from other regions organising car washes, dress down Fridays, breakfast desk deliveries and Wii tournaments.
The launch for the Million Makers challenge takes place today at the Angel View, Gateshead.
The youth charity wants to sign up 10 teams by mid June and is appealing for interested companies to attend the business breakfast and find out more.
Stuart Laverick, Vice Principle for Curriculum at the City of Sunderland College, said: “We are hoping that the Million Makers challenge will provide personal development opportunities for our people including increased self confidence and motivation, developed team skills and networking opportunities.
“Young people are at the heart of what we do. Entering this competition will allow us to support the worthwhile work of the Prince’s Trust, to help enable more young people to achieve their potential.”
David Beavis, Regional Director for The Prince’s Trust in the North East region said: “With the best of the North East’s business brains behind us, we can change young lives. Million Makers is also proven to improve teams’ confidence and team-working skills, which is more important than ever as companies are forced to cut training budgets during the recession.”
