International Business Month leads the way to overseas success
North East firms are being urged to look to the global market in a bid to beat the recession.
UK Trade and Investment has unveiled plans for this year’s International Business Month, and wants North East businesses to make the most of what’s on offer.
The event, which runs throughout June, aims to encourage and support new and experienced exporters through a packed programme of events throughout the region covering all aspects of international trade.
David Coppock, UK Trade and Investment’s International Trade Director, said: “Our international trade performance remains strong and we’re keen to encourage more companies to reap the benefits of international trade.
“This year International Business Month also coincides with World Trade Week (8-12 June) which highlights the importance of global trade in creating jobs and growth and we’re committed to helping North East companies maximise their overseas potential.
“We can rebuild global prosperity and security and create jobs and growth through open and fair markets. More than £11.2 billion worth of goods were exported from the North East around the globe last year and yet only a small percentage of the region’s companies are exporters - we want to encourage more companies to export a wider range of goods and increase the number of export markets.
“Working with our many partners across the region we are committed to ensuring North East companies have the skills, knowledge and support they need to succeed.”
