Eagles share their experience
Current basketball champions Newcastle Eagles have given more than 2,000 youngsters in the region a sporting experience to remember.
The team, who lifted three trophies during the 2009/10 season, teamed up with Northumbrian Water and Sportsmatch to deliver a series of clinics called the ‘Eagles Experience’, where professional basketball players put youngsters through their paces on the court.
The clinics involved a two-hour coaching session, followed by the chance to meet star players and watch the Eagles take on British Basketball League opponents on their home ground at the Metro Radio Arena.
Fabulous Flournoy, Newcastle Eagles player/coach, said: “The Eagles Experience takes youngsters through basketball skills, drills and thrills. The aim is to encourage them to continue with sporting activity, whether through junior basketball clubs in their area or other forms of exercise.
“The local club coaches have been very impressed and hopefully we’ve found some future Newcastle Eagles players!”
Jane Morland, corporate responsibility team leader at Northumbrian Water, said: “We are committed to improving our customers’ wellbeing and promoting the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. The Eagles Experience clinics compliment our Water for Health campaign, which emphasises the benefits of exercise and keeping hydrated by drinking enough tap water.
“The Eagles are great role models, especially for our younger customers, and they help deliver healthy messages in an exciting way.”
