Tees Valley charity secures job futures
A Thornaby-based charity is celebrating after winning a contract to continue to provide interpreting and translation services to health service providers across the Tees Valley.
It means that Everyday Language Solutions (ELS) can secure the futures of more than ninety people who are either employed by the charity or work for it in a freelance capacity.
The Tees Primary Care Trusts, representing Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool and Redcar and Cleveland Primary Care Trusts, has contracted ELS as one of its providers of interpreting and translation services across the four areas.
ELS Director Wendy Lillie said: “This is extremely good news for the people who work for and with us - and their families.
“The decision clearly means that the PCT Trusts see Everyday Language Solutions as the leading source for interpreting and translation services across the Tees Valley.
“Funding can be difficult in the best of times, and these aren’t the best of times. But now we can undertake our forward planning knowing that the work we do for the CPTs will support us in providing training for new interpreters.”
The news came just as two more public bodies signed up to the 24-hour phone interpreting service, which was launched in February.
The City of Durham and Darlington Acute Trust and the West Yorkshire Probation Service are the latest authorities to recognize the value of the new service.
In addition, the West Yorkshire Probation Service has also asked ELS to provide the full range of interpreting and translation services for a trial period of three months, which could lead to a longer-term contract.
Correction: In the original version of this article, ELS was referred to as the main provider for the Tees Primary Care Trusts. This was incorrect, as ELS are in fact one of four new providers of translation services in the Tees Valley.
