Building society connects to local culture
Twelve art galleries and museums on Tyneside and Wearside have received a boost from a North East building society.
Newcastle Building Society has signed up for the fourteenth year running to the Connecting through Culture business partnership scheme with Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM).
The building society’s contribution to the Business Partners Fund will go towards a range of museum and gallery activities, including learning programmes for families and children and developing outreach projects with local communities.
Gillian Tiplady, Head of Legal and CSR at Newcastle Building Society said: “In today’s challenging economic conditions it would be a dreadful loss if our local arts and culture scene was to suffer, which is why saw it as even more important to renew our partnership with TWAM again this year.
“Through its 12 art galleries and museums, TWAM keeps local culture alive and provides educational, creative and fun resources that make a positive impact on our communities.”
Alec Coles, Director of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, said: “Newcastle Building Society has been a loyal member of our Business Partnership for 14 years and we are delighted that they have renewed their membership. Connecting through Culture now has 28 business members including most of the premier companies in the region. It is a great testimony to the commitment of these companies to supporting cultural provision for the people of our region.
“In the last year, the Business Partners Fund has supported 13 projects in TWAM venues, and members have enjoyed the opportunity to engage with our work through employee volunteering opportunities, networking events, talks and preview tours of new exhibitions.”
