Codeworks hosts their annual summer net-together
Codeworks’ Think and a Drink held its annual ‘summer net-together’ last Thursday, with the aim of increasing the networking opportunities in the region.
The events usually comprise of speakers, either from the digital sector or business specialists to help local companies build a nexus of like-minded people from the North East.
Marketing and Events Executive of Codeworks, Ellie Silson, said: “The summer net-together is totally different from our normal think and a drink nights. With the other events it’s all about the quality of your speakers and then get everyone chatting afterwards.
“Everyone’s here to have a drink and a good old chat, but even when the speakers are here it still ends up in a talk over a beer.”
Catherine Coulson, Senior project manager at Benchmark Communications, an events management company, said: “For us it’s a chance to meet relevant people for projects we are currently working on.
“We can meet the right people in a relaxed environment, so we can get more of a feeling of what other businesses are all about.”
For some though, the networking and business relations are not the thrust of the night, Mike Parker from Orange Bus, a web development company, said: “It’s more about people in the same industry coming together, so for me it’s not networking in a business sense, it’s just finding people you like that you can have a drink with.
“It’s really getting to know people in the scene, and that’s why we’re here. This event is completely gloves off, I’ve got no intention of meeting anyone for any reason other than having a drink and you build up relationships through that.
“I don’t believe in seeing people as someone I can get something out of, these are people I can get on with, maybe become friends and maybe sometime in the future it might be that we do business.”
