Teeside University praised in national survey for recession help
A North East University has been cited in a new report by Universities UK, praising their ideas to help the region out of recession.
Teesside University has recently been named as one of the universities in the UK that have helped to provide ideas and services to help people out of the recession, overall worth £2.8 billion to the economy last year alone.
The ‘from recession to recovery’ survey, by Universities UK, highlighted the university’s ‘16 steps to help the region through recession’ scheme as a “hub for their local economies”.
Laura Woods, Director of Academic Enterprise at Teesside University, said: “We’re building on the 16 point plan announced earlier this year by developing a graduate internship scheme and other initiatives to support companies taking on graduates who might otherwise be facing a period of unemployment.
“The schemes give the graduate invaluable work experience and the company can see the potential advantage of taking on a graduate full-time.”
Teeside University is also part of Tees Valley conglomerate OneDoor, a new six strong partnership that will help individuals through the recession with skills and qualifications.
Professor Graham Henderson, Teesside University’s Vice-Chancellor, said:“We’re committed to putting the regional economy at the heart of our activities, and Teesside is becoming recognised as a university that is determined to make a robust and telling contribution to supporting businesses and individuals in the community during the current economic downturn.”
