Father and son launch film company
A Northumberland based father and son team are reaping commercial success with the development of their own film production company.
Ian and Matthew Brown have joined forces to create Flashlight Films, a father and son partnership combining experience and knowledge to develop their new careers in the industry.
Their work consists of high definition films and promotional videos, high quality DVD’s, animated menus, music videos, documentaries and graphic design. The company, based in Haltwhistle, has provided films for Northumberland National Park, the Big Lottery, Hatlwhistle Swimming and Leisure Centre, and a variety of bands.
Matthew, a university graduate in Film Production Technology, said: “Flashlight films is now a well equipped film company.
“It’s been exciting to produce music videos for up-and-coming bands. The Comets’ single ‘One Night in October’ was screened over 40 times on MTV2 and has received over 50,000 Youtube hits already.”
The graduate’s passion for all things film has driven him to produce and edit numerous screen offerings, one of which was premiered at a film festival.
Ian, Matthew’s father and previous Deputy Head Teacher at a Middle School in South Tynedale, said: “Having a well planned business from the start equipped us to deal with the unexpected things that naturally come along.”
The duo used support from Northumberland Business Serve Ltd (NBSL), and developed their business plan with advice sessions provided by NBSL’s Enterprise Bridge Programme.
Ian added: “It’s been hard work to get up and running but very rewarding. I wouldn’t have missed it for anything!”
