Dove raises funds for new charity
Staff at builders merchant JT Dove have been working to raise funds for their new chosen charity.
The team, spread across fifteen branches and a head office, have raised over £2000 so far, with the first cheque for £1,000 already handed over.
Having made a commitment to raise £5000 for the Toma Fund over the next 18 months, Steve Robinson, managing director, is delighted to have made such a strong start by holding a race day and through individual efforts.
He said: “We have chosen the Toma Fund as quite a few of our members of staff have been touched by cancer in one way or another over the last few months and this campaign raises funds for teenage cancer.
“It has obviously struck a chord with all of JT Dove’s employees as they have been holding fancy dress days, washing vans and doing sponsored walks already to raise funds.
“Well done and thank you to everyone who has contributed so far, I am confident that even in these times of financial uncertainty we will be able to hit our target of £5000.”
Launched just over a year ago, the Toma Fund was set up in memory of Jordan Thompson who passed away in 2007 aged just 15. The fund aims to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at Newcastle’s RVI hospital, which provides teenage cancer sufferers with a place to meet other teenagers in similar situations, allowing them to better understand and cope with their illness.
Jordan’s mother, Andrea, said: “Six teenagers are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK alone and in the past 30 years, teenage cancer diagnosis has increased by 50%. We are lucky to have a facility such as the RVI on our doorstep, which is why we have pledged to fund raise on its behalf.
“We need the help of companies like JT Dove to make a difference and are so grateful to them choosing to support us throughout 2009/2010.”
