Agency gives touring car fans backstage access
Touring car fans all over the world will be able access online, live, behind-the-scenes footage from one of the team garages at the next HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) race – thanks to Newcastle-based digital agency Orange Bus.
The agency, which sponsors the bamboo engineering team and driver Harry Vaulkhard, will broadcast a live web video feed from the team’s garage throughout the next race weekend at Rockingham, Northamptonshire, on the 19 and 20 September.
The feed - available at bamboo’s website www.bamboo-engineering.com - and at m.kyte.tv/orangebus for those watching on a mobile phone – will feature live coverage from the pits.
As well as live video footage, the site will also allow fans to see photographs from the race almost as soon as they are taken.
Julian Leighton, Orange Bus’s director and co-founder, said:“We’ve realised how keen fans are to see what goes on behind the scenes, in addition to the polished image presented on TV and in the press. By allowing us to create the live feed, bamboo have opened a window to the team’s activity during a race weekend.
“I’m delighted we’ve managed to find a team prepared to push the boundaries a little and do something different.”
Richard Coleman, team director of bamboo engineering, said:“One of the things supporters always want more of is access to the drivers. Through this groundbreaking live feed the fans will be able to chat directly to Harry, his engineers and mechanics – which we think will greatly enrich supporters’ experience of the race.”
Mr Leighton added: “If it works well, this type of technology could be rolled out to other teams or even other racing classes. Imagine how fantastic it would be to see the McClaren team in action, for example, or to be able to ask Lewis Hamilton what he thinks of how his car is performing. We are certainly keen to use it in other commercial situations.”
