Three Newcastle University Business School students have won places on the Science City’s first intensive three-month internship.
As part of Newcastle Science City’s task of creating prosperity from science in the region, the three MBA interns have already begun the program and are working on areas covering the energy, shipping and healthcare sectors.
Dr Ian Cloughley, Business Development Director at Newcastle Science City, said: “The projects that Newcastle Science City get involved in are hugely diverse and we want this reflected in the work given to our interns.
“This is very exciting for us and we are looking to the future in facilitating a business infrastructure that will improve the success of scientific companies.”
The three interns are Drew Gethertner, 25, from Florida, who left her role as a business analyst with a corporation in New York, Brant Watson, 31, from Texas, who set up and ran a number of visual arts companies and Vivek Unnikrishnan, 27, from Mumbai, who has a management background in the oil and gas industry.
Dr Cloughley added: “The three we selected have very different backgrounds and offer a lot to us. We gave them very different projects to build up their expertise work them very hard.
“In return we want to benefit from their hard nosed business experience with a view to developing a longer working relationship with Newcastle University Business School.”
