Grads to boost job chances with Young Enterprise
Unemployed graduates are being urged to boost their job chances by registering for volunteer programmes.
As Volunteering England announces that it has seen an 86% increase in the number of people offering their services as volunteers since the beginning of the recession, regional enterprise education charity Young Enterprise North East is calling out to unemployed graduates to help it make up volunteering numbers before the end of the year.
As the new academic year starts, YENE is looking to recruit unemployed graduates to join its volunteer pool to deliver enterprise education programmes in classrooms throughout the North East.
Catherine Marchant, YENE chief executive, said: “We rely on volunteers from business to deliver the programmes in the classrooms, and many of the region’s top businesses support us. We still need more volunteers and recent graduates not yet in employment would be perfect.
“As the recession hits, graduates are finding it increasingly difficult to gain a job due to the lack of recruitment. I think it is ever more important that they don’t just give up but look for something else to fill that gap.
“Volunteering can be vitally important to personal development; it looks good on your CV and is appealing to prospective employers. It also helps graduates get into a ‘work’ frame of mind, giving them something to get up for, someone to report to and goals to meet.”
Graduates or businesses interested in volunteering are asked to contact YENE on 0191 495 9500.
