Conference helps businesses shape tourism
The recently reopened Great North Museum: Hancock will play host to 150 local businesses today at Tourism Tyne and Wear’s annual conference.
The event will showcase to local businesses the scale and importance of tourism to the economy of Tyne and Wear, as well as offering them the opportunity to attend a workshop to improve their business presence online.
Guy Hilton, Chair of the Tourism Tyne and Wear Board said: “Getting the tourism business community together is an important part of our role and we hope to use this opportunity to update and encourage businesses to shape the future of tourism in Tyne and Wear.”
In addition to discussions on tourism strategy and participation from delegates, speeches will come from Terry Burwell tournaments and competitions director at the Rugby Football Union, and Bernard Donoghue, head of government and public affairs for Visit Britain.
Mr Burwell said; “We’re so pleased to see England selected as host country for the Rugby World Cup in 2015. It’s fantastic for grounds like St James’ Park and a great opportunity for the whole nation with an influx of international visitors to our towns and cities in 2015 and beyond.
“It’s hugely important that local businesses recognise and take advantage of the opportunities available to them to increase their turnover and deliver lasting positive impressions on visitors, encouraging them to come back again and again.”
