Setting sail across the pond
Just three months after launching his own business, a web designer has landed several contracts in the US and is currently working on a Stateside project backed by the likes of Starbucks, Pepsi and Domino’s Pizza.
Ryan Foster, of Monkseaton, North Tyneside, started 2010 with the launch of his own company Ryan Foster Design after leaving the position he held for several years at a North East digital firm.
Using social media tools such as Twitter and LinkedIn to market himself, Foster has won a number of contracts to help US firms develop their e-commerce performance.
Meanwhile - thanks to Foster’s portfolio - the fledgling company has also won a place on the team behind one of America’s most successful online charity initiatives.
The GamesThatGive project creates casual video games where users earn donations for their favourite charity, for free, just by playing.
While the advertisers supporting it include Pepsi, Domino’s and Starbucks, its growing list of charity partners includes UNICEF, Ronald McDonald House and Mercy Corps.
Foster, who is the only UK-based member of the team behind the project, said: “People in the States are more open to working remotely in a different way to the way people work over here.
“My role is the designer and the team is split between California, New England and Newcastle. We are currently on the homepage of Pepsi.com and our games also feature on the DominosPizza.com site.”
