Thinking Digital: The new information age
ONE of the founding fathers of web design told the North East that the next ten years will see sweeping changes to the way we handle information online.
Author, consultant and investor David Siegel was one of the first business players in web design and started blogging in 1994, before the term was even invented.
He has been writing books about the web since 1995 and they have been translated into 16 different languages across the world.
Speaking at the Thinking Digital conference at The Sage Gateshead, he said explained why the way the internet has been set up goes fundamentally against our needs.
He also predicted how things will change in the coming years through the emergence of what he calls ‘the personal data locker’.
“The personal data locker will hold all your personal information. To work or play you won’t need a Mac or Windows operating system, we will just need a cheap screen that can see the net.
“We can give a doctor access to our health records on our terms. We will replace our smart phones with ‘dumb’ phones. If I lose my smart phone I can just log into your dumb phone and it will become my dumb phone. We will have shared workspaces rather than sending files back and forth.”
Mr Siegel’s books include Creating Killer Web Sites, Secrets of Successful Web Sites, Creating Killer Web Sites II and most recently Futurize Your Enterprise
