The Co-operative invest £7.5m in Greater Manchester stores
The Co-operative is investing more than £7.5m to grow its convenience business in Greater Manchester.
Its latest food store to receive a major makeover was in Barlow Moor Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, with the store re-launched last month following a £310k investment.
The investment forms part of The Co-operative’s food strategy and, plays an important role in its ambition to be the UK’s number one convenience retailer.
Last week the supermarket announced £125m to invest in cutting prices.
Divisional managing director of The Co-operative Food, Matthew Speight, said: “We are delighted to be making such a significant investment in our stores in the Greater Manchester region, and across the UK.
“We are witnessing a major shift in shopping habits with consumers shopping differently. Increasingly shoppers are swapping the weekly shop for purchasing what they need, when they need it, locally and conveniently.
“In fact, research tells us that almost one in three adults are no longer doing the traditional big shop each week which, gives The Co-operative, as a community retailer, some important advantages.
“The Co-operative has a store in every postal area, in the heart of communities - enabling shoppers to pick up delicious food conveniently.
“We are committed to transforming and growing our convenience stores, investing in quality and value and, lowering the price of everyday essentials.”
