Travelodge unveils multi-million pound Greater Manchester expansion plan
Travelodge, the UK’s largest independent hotel chain, has revealed plans to launch two new hotels in Greater Manchester and create 45 jobs.
A £9m deal saw the company exchange contracts with Orbit Developments for a hotel on Heaton Lane in Stockport and another in Sale.
The Stockport hotel, part of the Regent House office building, will comprise 86 rooms and a Bar Café, while the Sale investment involves the conversion of an existing four-storey office block into a 67-room hotel with an on-site car park.
The sites form part of a wider £35m plan to open a number of new hotels in the county, with Cheadle, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan, Worsley, and Manchester chosen as locations. In doing so, Travelodge will create an additional 200 jobs.
The company’s managing director of property, Paul Harvey, said: “Manchester is at the forefront of the UK boom and is a key growth area for Travelodge.
“The powerhouse is a vital hub for business, tourism and is also home to four universities. Therefore we are delighted to boost our current portfolio of 16 hotels in the city with two new prime additions in Sale and Stockport.”
Travelodge has now submitted planning applications and, if consent is granted, expects both hotels to open by the end of 2016.
When work commences, Orbit Developments, a member of Emerson Group, will serve as the developer.
The group’s director, Mark Royle, commented: “The recent lettings to Travelodge provide both further diversification of the property portfolio and secure long term income to the Group.
“The locations of these two hotels in areas where Orbit has significant office investments will provide current and future tenants with excellent amenity to the benefit of all.”
